A Bright Future

We urge our City Council to take action on the following issues:

Improve Public Safety:

  • Increase support for police and fire chiefs.
  • Allocate additional resources for police and fire departments.
  • Enforce tougher penalties for criminals.
  • Renew focus on gangs and drugs.
  • Continue and expand where legally possible restrictions on sexually oriented businesses.

Crack down on run down apartments.

  • The council needs to implement stronger measures and new ordinances if necessary to clean up run down apartments that hurt property values, decrease our quality of life and increase crime.
  • The council needs to establish a proactive plan for future multi-family residential development to prevent today's apartment problems from recurring in the future. See Coalition Editorial

Improve our road system.

  • The council needs to review our long-term road plan and implement a comprehensive solution that benefits roads across all of our city, east, west, north and south.
  • We need improvement sooner, rather than later.

Focus on a stronger economy

  • Obtain a more focused involvement of local business leaders.
  • Expand the Economic Development Partnership with the Richardson Chamber of Commerce.
  • Aggressively work to attract:
    • New retail stores.
    • Upscale restaurants.
    • New corporate owners and tenants.
    • Work to retain STARTech. A noted economist estimated that STARTech has brought a cumulative value of $550 million into our economy.

These measures will maintain a strong city economy and provide job growth and opportunities for working families as well as places to work and enjoy life.

Maintain Fiscal Responsibility.

  • Continue to run the city like a business to get the best possible city services while keeping our tax rate as low as possible.

Don't let illegal immigration become an issue in our city.

  • Monitor the Illegal immigrant situation to insure that it does not become an issue.
  • Take immediate action if this issue develops in our city.

Support our City Manager.

  • The city manager and his staff have been very effective in leading the city through tough as well as good times. They should continue to receive all the support they need to continue the steady path of progress for all Richardson citizens.
